Assembly – Monday 18th January

Written on January 18, 2010 – 10:51 am | by mcooke

The aim of today’s assembly was to think about our behaviour in class and how it affects everyone else. We need to encourage all of us to think before we speak, or take action that we might later regret.

I would like your suggestions about things we can do before we speak such as counting to 10. Please leave your comments.

January Newsletter

A very Happy New Year to all our families and thank you for making your way to school in difficult conditions.

New staff

We would like to welcome Janet Howard and Carl Matthews to the Plymouth Grove team. Janet is our new school business manager and Carl will be teaching in Year 4/3. We hope they will be very happy at our school.

Snow disruption

As you are all aware the snow has caused massive disruption over the last few days and I thank you for your understanding over having to close the school. There were a number of factors that I had to take into consideration when making the decision, including; the ability of staff to be able to get to school as many have lengthy journeys to make, the safety of staff and pupils when  in school and the effectiveness of our heating system. I also wanted to give parents as much notice as possible in order to make alternative arrangements. We only have cleared key areas as we have to be able to manage our grit supplies.

If these situations arise again the school blog, www.plymouthgrove.net will always contain up to date information and we always inform local radio stations. On the Monday and the Tuesday we tried to phone as many parents as possible to inform them of the school closure. There was a number of occasions when the telephone numbers were incorrect. Please can you make sure that you keep the school up to date with any changes in contact details.

School open on Friday 8th January

Written on January 7, 2010 – 11:34 am | by mcooke

I am pleased to announce that school will be open tomorrow. We have only been able to open the front entrance on Plymouth Grove West  due to the amount of snow that needed to be cleared. Please can you make sure that your children have suitable footwear and clothing when coming to school. We will not be allowing the children out at playtime and lunchtime due to the extreme cold. Please take extra care when coming to school due to the icy conditions.

School closed on Thursday 7th January

Written on January 6, 2010 – 2:56 pm | by mcooke

School will be closed on Thursday 7th January. I apologise for the further inconvenience that this causes children and parents but we have been unable to clear any of the snow, or grit any of the paths. The school has also been unable to receive any food deliveries for the school dinners. We are making every effort to have this work completed by Friday. Once again, please accept my apologies.

Snow update

Written on January 6, 2010 – 11:12 am | by mcooke

Although the snow has now stopped falling we are faced with the problem of staff who travel from all areas of Greater Manchester being able to get to school. Until the travel conditions improve we will have to close the school until further notice. Please can you pass this message on to any friends or relatives who might not have internet access.

If you log onto your child’s class blog some teachers are beginning to set some work to prepare children for the new term.
