All the school community wish Mrs Steward all the very best as she begins her maternity leave this Friday. We will also being wishing Mrs Shaw all the best as she will begin her maternity leave in November.
We are really pleased to be able to welcome Wendy Barker and Melanie Parry as teachers in reception and nursery. Miss Barker will be the foundation stage leader and will be working alongside Miss Dempsey. Miss Parry will be teaching alongside Mrs Shafiq in the nursery as Miss Choudhry will be continuing her teaching career in another setting. Both Miss Barker and Miss Parry have a wealth of experience teaching in other parts of the country and we are lucky that they will be bringing their expertise to Plymouth Grove.
Ready for learning
It is vital that children come prepared for school every day. Unfortunately, we have many occasions when PE kits and packed lunches are being brought to school in the middle of the morning and this is leading to lessons being disrupted. Please make sure your child is ready for learning every day.
On Wednesday we will be celebrating Diwali. It is a very important time of year for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains; we will be marking this celebration with an assembly on Wednesday morning and a special lunch. Children will be able to wear brightly coloured clothes for this Festival of Light.
It is only October and we have already enjoyed sporting success with our Tag Rugby and Cross Country teams. Our Tag Rugby team will be representing the school in the City Wide finals this Thursday. We have one member of the Cross Country team who will also be running in the City Wide Finals.
We have a number of children with nut allergies in school. Therefore, I politely request that parents avoid products such as nutella, peanut butter and cereal bars that contain nuts to avoid any allergic reactions.

In July – Year 6 children were assessed by the English Speaking Board for their speaking and debating skills after a year long programme delivered by Miss Thompson. Eight children were assessed in the Junior Medallion exam and seven achieved a distinction with one achieving a merit plus. For their debating skills, eight children were assessed and seven achieved a distinction. These are incredible achievements and show the outstanding levels of achievement that our children are capable of reaching. One pupil, Malayka Ali, now at high school, has won her category for speaker of the year. Both Malayka and Miss Thompson will attend a special ceremony in Liverpool in November.
