November 2009
Welcome back to the start of another busy term at Plymouth Grove Primary School. We are looking forward to Eid celebrations at the end of November and Christmas celebrations during December. At the end of this letter you will find a list of key dates.
Mrs Bown
It is with great sadness that I announce the retirement of Mrs Bown in December after 35 years at Plymouth Grove. Thousands of children and parents, and hundreds of colleagues have been fortunate to benefit from her care and kindness. The school has changed and evolved over the 35 years but the one thing that has stayed the same is Mrs Bown’s dedication to the children and community of Plymouth Grove. We wish her a very happy retirement. If any parents would like to contribute to a collection for Mrs Bown, please leave donations at the school office.
Staff
Mrs Heap has just finished school in preparartion for the imminent birth of her second child. We wish both Mr and Mrs Heap the very best and we look forward to seeing their new arrival. We will also say a temporary goodbye to Miss Cooper in December as she begins her maternity leave. The school and her class will really miss her but can’t wait to meet the new addition to her family.
Replacing Miss Cooper in January will be Mr Carl Matthews who will be joining us from a school in London. We are very excited about our new recruit to the Plymouth Grove team (Team PG) and his skills and experience will help the school move further forward.
Children in Need Day
To raise money for Children in Need we will be holding a non uniform day on Friday 20th November. Children will be able to wear normal clothes in return for a donation of 50p.
Attendance
Attendance is still an area where the school needs to make a huge improvement. Please can I remind all parents that the school day begins at 8.50am and all children from reception to Year 6 are expected to be lining up at that time. Attendance is one of the biggest factors that affect pupils’ learning. Missing one day means that your child will then find it harder to catch up with the learning. If your child comes to school late they can also miss the start of lessons which makes it harder for them to participate in the rest of the lesson.
All medical appointments need to be made outside of school time. If your child is unwell please can you make sure you contact the school office so we can keep our records up to date.
The number of days absence from school for religious observance is three per year.
Contact details
It is VERY important that contact details are kept up to date for emergency procedures. We recently had to contact a parent in an emergency but were unable to do so due to changs in mobile phone numbers. If there is any changes to addresses or phone numbers please inform the office straightaway.
Anti – bullying Week (16th-20th November)
The theme for anti-bullying week this year is e-safety. The assemblies during this week will teach the children about the importance of keeping safe when using the internet.
Important Dates
Monday 14th December – Year 3 and 4 Christmas Partry Day
Tuesday 15th December - KS1 Nativity at 9.30, Year 5 and 6 Christmas Party Day
Wednesday 16th December- Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Party Day
